Typeface hybrid

Here we have a typeface I created, which is a combination of two existing typefaces, FF Meta and Lithos. The brief specified the selection of two typefaces, one I liked and one I didn't, and to create a new typeface by combining elements from each. The result was 'Feta'.

The letterforms more closely resemble Lithos, but the character forms were altered and serifs added to 'soften up' the typeface and bring elements of FF Meta into the end result. Although FF Meta does not have serifs, the curves at the ends of some of the ascenders and descenders have a similarity to serifs in the way that they make the typeface look less harsh. The name 'Feta' came from a combination of the word 'Meta' and the greekness of the Lithos typeface.

A poster was also produced to promote the typeface. In the words of my University tutor at the time, the typeface has a 'strange and endearing presence'.
